The Vitamin D Phenomena
An Easy Solution to Optimal Health
Why Take Vitamin D? You are not the only one to ask this question. In fact, only in recent years has Vitamin D surfaced as being a vital nutrient for overall health. Even conventional medicine doctors are getting patient’s Vitamin D levels checked on regular basis.
Why are so many people Vitamin D deficient?
The most common reason why people are Vitamin D deficient is because of the lack of exposure to the sun. If you remember, over the last 20 years, we have been told not to go outside for an extended period of time without sun block. Well, the media has done such a good job of educating people now the public is not getting any Vitamin D exposure at all.
It is recommended to at least get 10-15 minutes of unprotected sun exposure each day to reach optimal Vitamin D levels and in the United States we are far from this number. Those in southern states are more likely to meet this minimum daily requirement.
Even in the summer months we struggle to get enough sun exposure. It is estimated that 97% of the population is deficient in Vitamin D. Ugh!
So what are the benefits of Vitamin D? It protects against
- Colds and flu – this is why there is a higher incidence of the flu in the north only in the winter months
- Cardiovascular disease
- Autoimmune disease
- Fatigue and achiness plus
- Bone health
- Many other chronic diseases…even cancer
- The list goes on and on and on
Many call Vitamin D the “sunshine vitamin” for good reason.
